Class Flow: INTENSE (students can expect full day of movement and physicality in this course)
It would be great if we could always have sure-footing underneath us at all times when we need to make the perfect shot. It would be great if bad guys stood out in the open with Nerf-guns as their only weapons. Real-life isn’t so easy and for that reason, we need to use our environment to our advantage. This class will prepare students to use make the most of movement and cover while achieving needed hits on target.
Long Gun Cover + Movement is designed for the shooter who is confident and competent with shooting fundamentals AND weapon manipulation of their shotgun or rifle and handgun. This class is for the intermediate to experienced shooter who understands and applies the four rules of responsible firearms handling as a way of life. This class is physically stressful and will test those who attend.
Law Enforcement: This course is MCOLES certified through MDFI and counts toward training credit.

This is a particularly arduous course, but well worth the effort. The majority of firearms courses focus on shooting from a static line at cardboard or steel targets that don’t shoot back, without getting into how return fire changes what we need to do. This course deals with how to stay in the fight while minimizing the target we present to our opposition, a skill set that is hard to argue that we don’t need if we are preparing to defend ourselves against armed assailants.
The course description tells us that the pace of this course is intense—and it really is! There was a lot of vertical movement, changing positions on the ground, and moving from cover to cover. I learned to shoot a long gun from unusual positions that I had never imagined might be necessary—and found that I could still get the hits I needed.
My bottom line—I went home covered with dirt, woke up with sore muscles the next day, began developing survival skills that I intend to continue working on, and loved every minute of the course. This is a course that I plan to take again.
